We are proposing to install new equipment next to the existing Alyth substation to help manage voltage levels on the electricity transmission network as the amount and direction of electricity flowing across the north of Scotland continues to change. Network studies have identified a need for additional reactive power support in the Alyth area to keep voltage within a safe range and protect connected electrical equipment. The potential location of the proposed development is immediately south west of the existing Alyth substation and will connect directly into the existing transmission network. The project forms part of our ongoing investment in the electricity network to support future energy demand and maintain a secure, resilient and reliable transmission system. The development has been designed to utilise land adjacent to the existing substation and make use of existing transmission infrastructure where possible. Visualisations
Once you click on a visualisation, you will be presented with two tabs across the top middle of the screen; ‘Existing’ and ‘Potential’
If you click on the existing tab, it will show you the area as it currently stands, without the potential substation extension.
If you click on the potential tab, it will show you the potential view with the substation extension.
